Our client, a non-profit serving people with developmental disabilities and mental health needs is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO). As an experienced (CFO) you will guide their financial strategy and operations so this fantastic organization can continue to serve their community.
The CFO position has a blend of internal and external facing responsibilities. Responsibilities include the planning, development and maintenance of the organizational administration and the accounting systems to ensure the organization’s ability to meet its financial obligations and to serve its clients. This role is hands-on and requires intimate involvement with the day-to-day operations, while thinking strategically about growth and financing. The CFO maintains full management control under the CEO for all aspects of the Fiscal Division. This role is based in San Jose, CA. Due to its high visibility, on-site is requested initially yet there is flexibility to work 1-2 days a week from home eventually.

Individual pay decisions are based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. Salary range for candidates in the San Francisco Bay Area is: $190k-$240k

Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize and manage the Accounting department, Facilities and Payroll.
- Monitor the effective functioning of the organizational systems, policies and procedures.
- Provide strong leadership, direction and initiative in overseeing the assigned staff/departments to assure their active participation in the implementation of policies/procedures to achieve the organization’s goals.
- Oversee all of the financial management systems including:
- Monitor the monthly financial statements.
- Facilitate the financial reporting to the contracting agencies.
- Act as financial liaison with banks and other interested parties.
- Negotiate the organization’s borrowing needs with banks.
- Meet regularly with the CEO and the Board of Directors to review the organization’s financial position and advise accordingly.
- Ensure appropriate utilization of funds within the organization and State Regulations.
- From a budget perspective, monitor budget performance (revenue, expense, overhead, and cash flow).
- Coordinate the processing of cost reports.
- Arrange and ensure compliance for annual agency audit of Accounting systems, ensuring State and Federal Laws and Regulations, and Accounting and Auditing standards are effectively applied to the organization’s fiscal policies and procedures. Keep up to date of any and all changes in these areas.
- Monitor all accounting systems which include, General Ledger, Payroll, Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, and support migration to updated accounting platforms, as needed.
- Run the administrative department so that all requirements for accreditation, licensing and funding are met.
- Supervise all fixed assets, including buildings and equipment.
- Work closely with the CEO to develop policies and procedures for effective operation and management; and provide thought partnership (e.g. strategic modeling, scenario planning, forecasting, etc.).
- Present to the Board of Directors and implement decisions made by them.
- Implement financial controls, procedures and reporting protocols.
- Manage the annual budgeting process and monitor and report on actual-to-budget monthly.
- Act as a mandated abuse reporter.
Requirements:
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in business, public and non-profit administration. Specifically managing county and or state funds including government contracts.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance, MBA or CPA preferred.
- Minimum 7+ years of senior level experience managing a budget of over $10 million.
- 2+ years of experience with Dynamics.
- Possess strong forecasting and strategic planning ability.
- Strong business acumen with the ability to speak up when necessary.
- Highly accountable professional with ability to delegate effectively while also providing hands-on support & mentoring.
- Skilled at taking in a lot of information, sorting out the relevant facts, developing findings, drawing conclusions, and making recommendations.
- Ability to communicate ideas effectively to others. Willingness and ability to listen, question, think, decide, and respond.
- Ability to relate to people with disabilities.
- Strategic thinker who can develop a long-term strategy while balancing near-term priorities.
